April 11, 1916 - OWENSMOUTH BASEBALL PLAYED FIRST GAME EVER
Owensmouth High defeated the USC Preps with no coach, and a 3rd baseman who graduated the previous year. Unfortunately, it was the only game they won that season. The following year, baseball was cancelled as schools plowed their fields for World War 1 Victory Gardens.
April 28, 1926 - SMALL GYM COMPLETED AND FIRST USED
Canoga's small gym is the second oldest building on campus (woodshop is the oldest, 1924), and it became the small gym when the large gym was constructed in 1954. In the 60s, 70s, and 80s it was called the Girl's Gym.
April 09, 1975 - Spacey and Delano perform “Dames at Sea” in Assembly Hall
Actors Kevin Spacey Fowler, and Diane Delano were both students at Canoga, and were both involved in Play Production. Spacey won an Oscar for Best Actor in the movie American Beauty (1999), and has starred in many major motion pictures including Superman Returns, 21, and A Bug's Life. Diane Delano is best known for her role as Officer Barbara Semanski in the 90s hit television series, Northern Exposure.
April 30, 1999 - Actor/Comedian Pauly Shore was “Principal for a Day”
Pauly Shore was one of 200 volunteers in a district-wide Principal For A Day program. The Los Angeles Unified School District invited entertainment figures, business and community leaders to be part-time educators for the day. Canoga students followed their "principal" chanting, ``Weasel. Weasel. Weasel.''
April 14, 2010 - Campus Visit by Canoga Graduate and Oscar Winner
Barney Burman (class of '84) spent the morning visiting with students at Canoga. He later spoke to an overflowing crowd of enthusiastic students in the Oral Arts Room. He brought some movie make-up effects, as well as his Oscar. To celebrate his visit, Canoga administration gave him the honor of being Principal for the Day. His first official act as principal was to extend lunch! Click here
Barney won the Academy Award in 2010 for Best Achievement in Make-up for the movie Star Trek.
