![]() Do you like to create projects that make you think? Are you ready to be a part of a team? Are you interested in communicating with computers and video? Would you like to be one of a small group of students who work closely with great teachers? The Building Assets through Integrated Technology (B.A.I.T.) Academy provides opportunities for students to collaborate with others, investigate and prioritize ideas, organize information, produce graphic and multimedia products and narrate visual presentations. These are the skills that prepare our youth for post-secondary education and employment. Through our standards-based sequential curriculum; we create “real life work” experiences.
B.A.I.T. covers a wide range of interests, and coursework while meeting the A-G requirements of the UC system. While students are learning the career skills that will enable them to create signs, photographs, posters, animations, podcasts, videos, multimedia presentations, web pages and campus publications; they are integrating their academic coursework into the content. Our students graduate college prepared and career ready! ![]() 2010-2011 School Year
♦ Our district recognized our academy. Our team spent 5 full days this summer planning curriculum. We teamed with three other schools and had the expertise of our advisors. We are visited and will meet throughout the year.
♦ We worked with the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and created a professional affiliation with the American Institute of Graphic Arts [Los Angles Chapter Chair, Heather Parlato. She is giving us direction to brand our school. The students are doing research and data collection to create a campaign.
♦ John Ciatti, director of brand Services for Harmon International has invited our students to job shadow designers and project managers. He is helping our team to write curriculum and to develop projects.
♦ We developed an over-all theme for each grade level and chose projects that can be shared by all team members and graded by members of our advisory. The new curriculum is being developed through the Linked Learning model.
♦ We polled all students about their specific interests and desired electives. We compiled their top ten desired classes and put them on the schedule and we added a full time photo teacher, two journalism classes and expanded video production.
♦ We tied our on-site community college class, Multimedia Storytelling, to the academy curriculum. The students did research that will be continued by the high school seniors in their final project. Thirty-two current and former students earned 6 college credits in one semester.
♦ We built an on- site photo studio. This means that we can take school photos for Homecoming, Prom and portraits. In January we will begin an ROP business class to run the photo business.
♦ Junior Achievement Skills for Success provides us with a weekly visit to teach interview skills, resume writing and financial literacy.
♦ We offer Microsoft Office Certification, and are in the process of becoming Adobe Competency Certificates.
♦ We offer Manufacturing and Product Development, Art. Media and Entertainment and Business and Marketing as Career Pathways.
